DORSET PARK

DORSET PARK

Where is Dorset Park?
The neighbourhood sits between Birchmount Road and Midland Avenue, with Lawrence
Avenue serving as its southern boundary, and with highway 401 to the north.
The types of houses in Dorset park
Along Kennedy Road there are a number of high rise apartment buildings that are a
great option for younger people.
To the west of Kennedy Road, there is a residential area that consists mainly of houses
built in the 1950s. These houses include bungalows, one-and-a-half storey houses,
along with a few semi- detached houses.

These houses are occupied by an older population, the people that originally bought
these homes when they were first constructed, but in the last few years there has been
a trend of younger people buying up homes in the area.
Tips for moving to Dorset Park
There are a lot of people looking to sell their homes in Dorset Park, as the demand for
houses in the area grows larger every year. Whether you are moving into a new house,
staging your home for sale, or just looking to free up space and get rid of clutter, self
storage can be a great solution.

Dorset Park is conveniently located just a ten minute drive away from Storwell Self
Storage at Markham Road and the 401. Currently, Storwell is offering my clients an
exclusive offer of 4 weeks of free self-self storage at any of their locations in
Mississauga, Etobicoke, and Scarborough. If you need storage for your next move, yu
can call a Storwell representative or visit a facility in person to demo a unit.

Dorset Park’s Multiculturalism
Dorset Park is a very ethnically and culturally diverse neighbourhood, and, over the
years, the area has been a major destination for new immigrants, especially those from
Eastern and Southern Asia. Other than English, the most commonly spoken languages
in Dorset Park homes are Tamil, Tagalog, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Urdu.
Transportation in Dorset Park
One of the most appealing features of Dorset Park is its incredible access to
transportation.

Dorset Park has a number of bus routes running through it, you also have easy access
to the 401 and three Subway Stations, Lawrence East, Ellesmere and Midland.
Dorset Park acts as a transportation hub for all of Scarborough, whether by car or bus or
train, and you can reach just about any part of the city from Dorset Park in less than half
an hour.

This neighbourhood is perfect for those people who like to explore the city or want to
make frequent trips downtown, but want a little bit more space and freedom than what
downtown Toronto provides.
Dorset Park’s busy business district

Dorset Park is definitely not a sleepy suburb. The residential spaces are well maintained
and relaxing, but just a few minutes away you get a completely different experience with
the business district on Kennedy Road.

Along both sides of Kennedy road, running straight through Dorset Park, there are
dozens of stores, businesses, high rise buildings and restaurants. Anything you could
ever need, you’ll find it somewhere along that stretch of road.
A key feature of the business district is Kennedy Commons, an outdoor shopping center
with over 40 different stores including a Metro, Chapters, Popeyes supplements, and
LCBO.  The center also has a Jollibee, a very popular fast food chain, started in the Philippines
with only a handful of locations in Toronto.
If the Kennedy Commons isn’t fulfilling your shopping needs, you could always hop on
the 401 east and be at the Scarborough Town Center in under ten minutes, another
perk of living in Dorset Park.
Parks and Recreation in Dorset Park
Although shopping and commerce is a major facet to the Dorset Park area, there are
also plenty of places where you’ll be able to get some fresh air and partake in some
physical activity.
Dorset Park, the actual park that shares its name with the surrounding neighbourhood,
is a humble piece of land nestled amongst houses between Lewiston and Wye Valley
Road. It has a baseball diamond and a playground, and not much in the way of features,
but a nice peaceful spot to spend a day with the family.
McGregor Park is the more active park in the area, located just east of Lawrence and
Birchmount Road. McGregor Park has:
 a full sized baseball diamond with stands for spectators and lighting for night
games,
 three tennis courts,
 a full basketball court with bleachers for spectators,
 a playground and water park, and
 an outdoor pool
Right next to McGregor Park is McGregor Park Community Center, which has an indoor
ice rink. Whatever activity you’re in the mood for, you’ll have plenty of options on the
south end of Dorset Park.
Notable Dorset Park Facilities

Right next to the McGregor Park Community Center is the McGregor Park Branch of the
Toronto Public Library. Another perk of Dorset Park is being in such close proximity to
so many useful and vital institutions.
Right on Kennedy and Forbes Road, there is one of the largest Salvation Army thrift
stores in the city, not only will you be able to go there to find some cool vintage clothing
and antiques, but more importantly, you’ll be able to easily donate your old clothes, toys,
and shoes to help those in need.
To the north, you have access to several healthcare facilities, on Ellesmere and
Birchmount Road you have the Hillside Medical Center , and then just down the road at
Midland, you have the Appletree Medical Center.
You even have options for when your pet is sick, the Toronto Veterinary Emergency
Hospital is just two minutes away from the Hillside Medical Center on Ellesmere and
Birchmount.
Dorset Park Schools
Parents will have a strong selection of schools in the Dorset Park area. The Toronto
District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board both operate
schools in the area.
Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute, located at Lawrence and Kennedy Road is the
only secondary school run by the TDSB in Dorset Park, but it scored quite low in the
annual Fraser Institute report card for 2020.
Another option for secondary school education in the Dorset Park area is Bond
International College on Birchmount Road. Bond is an independently run high school
and pre-university program.
For primary schools, Ellesmere-Statton Public School and Glamorgan Public School
earned the highest grades of any TDSB school in Dorset Park from the Fraser Institute.
St. Lawrence Catholic School earned the highest mark out of all of the TCDSB schools
in the area.
The best restaurants in Dorset Park
Dorset Park’s Business District is home to a whole host of different cuisine options from
everywhere in the world. Some of the best rated restaurants in the area are:

 Ni Ji Sushi, one of the best Japanese restaurants in Scarborough located on the
corner of Ellesmere and Midland.
 For contemporary Filipino fusion, you can go to Saucy Plate on Lawrence and
Tower Drive

 Serving classic Mediterranean dishes, Kathy’s Grill is located at Kennedy and
Wickware Gate
 And for Middle Eastern pastries, go to Al'deewan Lebanese Manakeesh Bakery
on Kennedy and Ellesmere Road.
After dinner you can head over to Magnotta Winery on Midland, to taste some of their
wonderful selections from their vineyards in the Niagara region.
Making the move to Dorset Park
Dorset Park is a mini metropolitan city all by itself, and with a busy bustling business
district, there’s never a dull moment in this neighbourhood. Being surrounded by so
many different cultures and people makes for a very interesting atmosphere. The easy
access to so many forms of transportation in and out of the area, places Dorset Park at
the center of activity for all of Scarborough.
